Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

What is PTSD?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an emotional response to a traumatic event or series of traumatic events. These events can include war, terrorism, abuse, childbirth, natural disaster, accidents or the death of a loved one.

It often occurs shortly after the traumatic event(s), but it can be delayed until months or even years afterwards, and can range in severity and complexity.

People with PTSD often experience a sense of reliving the event (through nightmares and flashbacks etc.) and/or trying to avoid anything that reminds them of it.

How do I know if I have PTSD?

Any traumatic effect will leave most people feeling shocked, angry or scared for a short time.

However, when it continues to affect you in the long-term and negatively impacts your ability to function, you might be suffering from PTSD.

Symptoms of PTSD include:

Anger
Inability to concentrate
